Farmers and ranchers who use working dogs know there is no equal. No technology will replace the instincts and energy of any animal, least of all a canine destined to gather or guard livestock.
Do you use dogs to help manage livestock on your ranch, be it sheep, cattle, goats, poultry, pigs...?
We love nothing better than to talk about dogs, especially when it comes to sheep dogs and the potential that exists amongst the various breeds. But rather than just sharing our bias by writing about the dogs we use, we want to hear about the dogs you use.
The best voice for sharing the virtues of working dogs is the voice of the people who use them day in and day out.
We would like to open these pages up to you - the breeders and the ranchers who are living with and working these dogs. Whether you use one dog or five, on one acre or one thousand, whether you raise poultry, sheep, cattle or other livestock, this is the opportunity to share the qualities of the dog(s) who helps you do it.
From Border Collies and Kelpies to English Shepherds and Bearded Collies, we know there are still herding dog breeds being bred for the purpose of work.
Working dogs have been on the receiving end of some negative press recently.
There are now more than a few articles traveling around the web and calling for the end of the long standing tradition of using dogs as a means to manage and protect livestock. In some countries there are hints of forthcoming government legislation banning such practices.
Lets flip the coin and tell the other side of the story.
It's time to extol the virtue of ranch dogs and what they mean to the livelihood of a rancher. Provide your comment and share your viewpoint.
Be it pure breed or mixed breed.....Share with the world your favorite or most compelling ranch dog story and give voice before it's too late to bother.
We've created two ways for you to share what these dogs mean to you, your family and your ranch.
And for those gentle giants, the livestock guardian dogs - share your comment about which breed(s) you think makes the best guardian dog or share a story of the remarkable nature of these canines.
We hope these pages will be the beginnings of a pro dog movement if you will. Your stories and comments will appear here on our site and represent a common voice for these dogs as well as serve to inform our readers about their nature.
