As there are numerous herding dog breeds we have not had the privilege to work with first hand, it would be beyond our scope to tell you what every breed is like for ranch work.

With a little research you can find a breed and a dog that suits your personality and the nature of the work you have in mind.
Herding dogs can be purchased as pups and trained by the rancher, purchased as young started dogs, or purchased as fully trained adults. You will pay a handsome price for the last dog but you should, as they are worth their weight in gold and then some.
