DTR Working Dogs at Dog Tale Ranch - Beginnings

If you have made it this far into our site you will know that we are advocates for working dogs.

Both stock dogs and livestock guardian dogs are inter-weaved into our ranch life. We make room for them and care for them and they are considered an integral part of the whole which makes up our ranch life. Besides this they brighten our days.

I never like to reflect for long on particular breeds of working dogs for the sake of implying one is better than another. I prefer to hold to the premise that "a good working dog is a good working dog." They all have their place and uniqueness. The challenge is to sort out which breed or dog offers you the greatest benefit in your situation through camaraderie and usefulness on the farm.

Here at Dog Tale Ranch the lengthy sorting has culminated in the Australian Kelpie and the Border Collie as choice for stock dogs and Akbash cross breds, with future Anatolian Shepherds coming on board, as livestock guardian dogs.

The remaining stories depict a glimpse of life with dogs here at Dog Tale Ranch. Feel free to share your comments afterward.
