About Us

Who is the face behind the site? What rancher has time to write and build web sites?

arlette seib That would be me, Arlette Seib, and I build this site in my spare time. Being a rancher in Saskatchewan that means during the winter season.

I don't go it alone though. The operation of Dog Tale Ranch is the combined effort of myself and husband Allen.

We hold to a common goal of refashioning ranch life while maintaining a deeply rooted respect for animals and the land. To that end we raise a flock of wool sheep in a natural manner through grass based production.

Where we started

Both of us grew up immersed in Saskatchewan rural life. We began our joint ranch life by securing a mortgage and purchasing six quarters of crop land. We followed the bandwagon advice of family, neighbors, lending agents and farm and ranch advisors. Within two years we were overworked, angry, severely underpaid, highly in debt and directionless.

We were frustrated at working so hard to realize so little gain. Time was elusive. Enjoyment sporadic.

Ranching was supposed to be our life style but now it was running our life. Our youthful intention was to do this differently and we were deeply disappointed to discover we had allowed ourselves to be swept along with the rat race. The irony of it was that the off farm jobs we didn't want was where we sought relief from the struggles.

What helped us change?

A few dogs and an undying quest for personal growth.

arlette with dogDogs have always been an essential and integral presence in my life. Without a dog or five or six, life isn't life. Those who understand how and why this is need no further explanation. And this simple explanation is probably enough said for those who don't understand it.

In a practical nutshell, the dogs were the reason we purchased sheep.

And somewhere along the journey I developed a fascination with any material related to consciousness, intention, reality, and spirituality.

So while we were spinning out of control we were also peeling away the layers of timeworn habits and dire thinking. Through that struggle came tremendous strides in our personal growth and the beginning of, not just an alternative way to ranch, but an alternative way to live.

That alternative way of living has always had nature at it's core. Work with nature, not against, has always been my gut reaction and I guess a motto of sorts. Thus, I have long been an avid fan of natural rhythms of farming and ranching.

And the Website?

Ranching with sheep has increased our passion for taking care of the land so that the land can take care of us. That passion led to the creation of this website.

This site is new and is built by a newbie. I have no background training in building websites and I'm learning as I go.

The site is built in increments of spare time. Like our ranch it is constantly evolving as we learn.
